It's school holidays at the moment but Mr 3 still has daycare (2 days a week) so yesterday it was just Mr 6, Bub and I at home. I've been wanting to go to The Grounds of Alexandria for a long time now but it's not exactly close to where we live (it's about an hour drive- in good traffic). But I thought with Mr 3 at daycare it would make the trip in there much easier. A last minute text to my sister the night before and she was free to come too!
We dropped Mr 3 at daycare at 9.30, picked my sister up on the way and arrived just after 10.30am. We managed to get a car park around the back and it wasn't too busy, however by the time we left there were a lot more people and the car park was full (they actually had a car park ranger out there so cars could be double parked and he moved them when people needed to leave).
We'd read online that they had activities running for kids during the school holidays so we headed to the magic show soon after we got there. It went for an hour and Mr 6 loved it. My sister found us a table outside in the greenhouse while the magic show was on and we ordered our lunch from the takeaway menu. There was a good selection of dishes to choose from and lots of healthy options for me. I chose the Healthy Energy salad with chicken and a freshly squeezed watermelon, pineapple and passionfruit juice.
After lunch we had more of a look around- at the animals (Kevin Bacon-the pig, a sheep and chickens), the flower market and the plants throughout the grounds. There were so many yummy food options that I managed to avoid however Mr 6 and my sister had the Nutella filled donut and I may have had just 1 bite of that!! I did buy the yummiest loaf of sourdough bread. Oh and had a really good coffee!
We had the pram for Bub and it was very pram friendly. There were a couple of steps but a helpful man who worked there helped us down those- and there was also an alternative way to walk that had no steps.
Before we left we found a lady who had some seedlings and we were able to pot these and take them home. We had a choice of colourful flowers, yellow flowers or lettuce and we chose the colourful flower ones.
We had such a lovely time, I just wish it was a bit closer so we could go more often!
