12 weeks ago I wrote this post about starting Body Beyond Birth's 12 week online Pilates and nutrition program. When I had my mum take my photo as a "before" image I was so self-conscious and even more hesitant to hit publish on that blog post. What if I posted a "before" photo and the "after" one looked no different?! Publishing that post made it real and also made me more accountable to actually making changes to embrace a more healthier lifestyle.
But I did publish that post and for 12 weeks I have been doing the Body Beyond Birth online Pilates sessions and following their nutrition guidelines. The Pilates sessions are generally scheduled for 5 days a week and go for about 20 minutes. As a busy (and tired!) mum of 3, this was perfect for me to fit into my day. I preferred to do the workouts during the day but if it got to the evening and I hadn't done them and I was super tired I just had to tell myself it was 20 minutes and then I could lie on the couch and watch TV!
The weekly schedule also recommends doing 30 minutes of cardio 3 times a week. In all honesty I did try and do this but some weeks I only managed to do cardio once a week. The kids keep me pretty active anyway but I probably didn't put all my effort into the cardio side of the program. I did do every Pilates workout though (apart from a few days when we were on holidays and didn't have good internet connection).
The nutrition information was excellent and I have completely changed how I eat! I'm eating healthier foods and making sure my portion sizes aren't so large (I do this by usually using a smaller dinner plate so it still looks like I have a big meal!). I've found I need to make sure my snacks and lunch are prepared for the day so I have something healthy to grab to eat when hunger strikes. The easiest way for me to do this is to pack myself a lunch and snacks when I do the kids ones.
12 weeks later, I can definitely see the changes! People have told me they notice them too, which is so nice to hear :)
So now the 12 weeks are up, what next? Well I've just signed up to do another 12 weeks for the next level of the program. I'll keep you updated how I go!
