A long weekend in Shoal Bay

We decided fairly last minute to go away for the recent Australia Day long weekend (leaving on the Saturday and coming home on the Tuesday). After booking a holiday house I started to get a bit hesitant about going away for such a short amount of time with 3 kids (1 who was only 7 weeks old at the time)! The amount of things we needed to pack seemed so much for such a short time. But in the end we had such an awesome time away! We were so blessed with the weather and spent both full days we were there at the beach.

After we'd unpacked on the first day we headed to a local dog beach. We usually go to Bagnalls beach with the dog but decided to try out a different one I'd heard about, Birubi Beach reserve. After 5pm (and before 9am) you can take dogs off lead on the beach and our dog, Maddie, had an absolute ball running like crazy along the vast expanse of sand. Of course our boys had just as good a time, running into the waves, exploring the rock pools and climbing up the beach! The light was just perfect and I managed to capture these shots with my iPhone

We visited Fingal Bay beach and went down the southern end where the water was nice and calm. Mr 6 even had a go on a long board and managed to stand up for a bit!

We also went to Little Beach (nice and calm for kids but quite busy) and Nelson Bay beach. Mr 6 did a bit of snorkeling and the water was so clear he was able to see lots of fish. I even ventured out for a swim!

Baby Beau was an absolute champ and slept on and off in the sun tent at the beach. Such a good weekend away and we're hoping to go back soon!

All photos in this post were taken with my iPhone 6. I found it easier to carry around (with all the other stuff we had to drag to the beach!) and also meant I didn't have to worry about my DSLR getting sandy or salty (the first day it was so windy at the beach and the sea air kept making my sunglasses mist up with salt!).
